RED BRACELET
The one thing that I carry on me at all times would have to be my red string/bracelet that I have on my left wrist. I DO NOT TAKE THIS OFF FOR NOTHING!!!!! the reason why is because I believe that it wards off the evil eye, takes away any negative energy. Many don't believe this but I do! Now I don't know why I picked my left wrist to put it on but it just felt right to me. As I did a little research my red bracelet is somewhat associated to the Kabbalah. In Kabbalah traditionally a red string is used on your left wrist and also used to ward off evil spirts and the evil eye. Now what I did find out was that your left side is your spiritual body. I do believe a lot in the evil eye and the fact that there are people around that wish bad upon you. In the Spanish culture we are brought up knowing about the evil eye or as it is said in Spanish the "el mal de ojo". Now I can't speak for every Hispanic but I was brought up knowing about this. So my bracelet never comes off.....
I find this very interesting. I admire that you know so much about it and the strong faith you have.

ReplyDeleteThat is very interesting. I had no idea that a red-string bracelet wards off evil and negative energy. I recently saw that new scary movie Unfriend, has me freaked out and superstitious about ghosts. I love horror movies, but this one has had me freaked out. I’m not Hispanic but I am always open to learning about a new culture and I think that it is so cool that I was able to learn something new about yours. If I just saw you had a red bracelet on for the style, but I was able to learn today that it has a deeper meaning to you.

Very pretty! Is Kabbalah a religion? Could anyone wear it to keep evil spirits away? Or is it a cultural thing?

ReplyDeleteI find your belief interesting. Its funny that it happens to be a red string. Apparently many cultures connect red strings to spiritual meanings. For example, the Japanese believe in a "red thread of fate" that connects people together. Its not the same exact thing, but your post reminded me of it.

I read your post while in class on Monday and neglected to post anything. Since that class, I have had two shifts at work. I realized that there are more people than I thought that wear them. Thank you for enlightening me, it gives me more to talk to patients.
ReplyDeleteThis is very popular in the spanish community. When my daugther was born one the first things my mother got for her was a red bracelet with the " mal de ojo" that what we call it.
